The Whitney family began their ministry at the Yreka Church of the Nazarene on December 18, 1994. Jeff has been an ordained elder in the Church of the Nazarene since 1989, and came to Yreka after being the senior pastor of the Oakland (CA) First Church of the Nazarene for five years. He also held two earlier associate ministry positions in Greeley, CO; and Overland Park, KS. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Religion from Northwest Nazarene College in Nampa, ID, and a Master of Divinity from Nazarene Theological Seminary in Kansas City, MO. Jeff enjoys music and still plays his trumpet and sings at church and other community events. For the last ten years he has also served as a chaplain at both Fairchild Medical Center and Madrone Hospice. His wife, Darla, is a first grade teacher at Evergreen School in Yreka, and they both enjoy serving together in ministry. Her main emphasis in these last few years has been in helping with the music and women’s ministries of the church. Darla is an avid scrap booker and enjoys making many memories for her family and friends. They have five children: Both Brad and Chelsea are graduates from Point Loma Nazarene University and are living in San Diego; Morgan was recently married to her husband, Trevor, and they are making their home in Medford, OR; Jenna is involved in many activities at Yreka High School; and Krista is the “light” of the family, attending the Special Day Class at Jackson Street School. Favorite family vacation spots include both Lake Tahoe and Disneyland.
The journey of this current building project has been a stretching one, but they are looking forward to all that God has for them, their church and community in the years to come. They are as excited to be ministering today in Yreka, as when they started 16 years ago! |
